Voters Look to Prop 22 to Save Jobs and Services

SACRAMENTO—The Yes on Prop 22 campaign released a new ad highlighting Sacramento politicians’ attempts to strip app-based rideshare and delivery drivers’ ability to work independently and eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs in the middle of a pandemic and recession. The ad, entitled “Skyrocketing,” began airing over the weekend on television and digital platforms across the state. A full transcript of the ad is below.

Skyrocketing

Unemployment has skyrocketed.

What do state politicians do?

Pass a drastic law that could eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs by making it illegal for app-based drivers to continue working as independent contractors.

Threatening to shut down rideshare services across California.

Hurting drivers and customers. At the worst possible time.

Proposition 22 will restore drivers’ ability to work as independent contractors…. saving critical jobs and services.

With California on the brink of losing hundreds of thousands of app-based jobs, the ad also highlights how Proposition 22 would protect the ability of app-based rideshare and delivery drivers’ to continue to choose to work independently and provide essential services for millions of Californians amidst a public health crisis.

By a four to one margin drivers want the ability to remain independent contractors according to independent polls. And, Prop 22 would provide a new earnings guarantee, access to health care, and safety and anti-discrimination provisions to protect drivers and passengers alike. That’s why nearly 100,000 drivers have signed up to actively support Yes on Prop 22.
