SACRAMENTO – Last week the 11 newspapers that make up the Southern California News Group endorsed the Protect App-Based Drivers & Services Act, calling our initiative “a good idea” and a “battle well worth fighting.”

The Protect App-Based Drivers & Services Act, aimed for the November 2020 ballot will protect the legal right of app-based, on-demand rideshare and delivery drivers to work as independent contractors, while providing drivers historic new benefits and protections, including a minimum earnings guarantee equal to 120% of the minimum wage plus $.30 per-mile for expenses, plus an ACA-comparable healthcare subsidy and insurance to cover on-the-job injuries.

Here are some quotes from the editorial:

“The (Protect App-Based Drivers & Services) … would provide new protections for workers. These include health-insurance stipends and a guarantee that drivers would earn 120 percent of the minimum wage. …”

“…this battle is well worth fighting. Nothing less than the state’s economic future, and the flexibility and livelihood of more than 8 percent of the state’s workers, are at stake.”
